|

The KC Chiefs are fast learners under the helm of Coach Dupree. In his first game, the Chiefs soundly defeated the Chicago Bears 45-20 as the young defensive stars shined through with two sacks and nine interceptions (Rookies Zach Bowman and Morgan Trent had two apiece).
This week, starting rookie Terrell Thomas had three interceptions while veteran Safety Bernard Pollard had 1 and newly acquired CB Kevin Barnes collected his first pro interception as the Chiefs stayed perfect in the preseason defeating the Dolphins 33-20.
"This was way past my amazement" stated Coach Duper. When I looked at the Chiefs and their roster, I was like this team is going to be my greatest challenge to make them a winner was the goal. Maybe that isn't so far away.
These are preseason games albeit, but it's got a good feeling to the gameplan. QB Chad Pennington has been on with every snap count aside from the occasional 1-2 interceptions, his accuracy is well on.
Rookie WR Hakeem Nicks got his first pro touchdown in this game hauling in a 35 yard pass for a 55 yard score. Other rookie WR Quan Cosby has been a delght and his work ethic keeps him going full blast.
Veteran MLB Napoleon Harris led the team with 12 tackles, one sack while Abraham Wright brought up the rear with five tackles (two for sacks). The young offensive line completed their duties by not allowing a sack.
This Chiefs team has a long way to go but there are some encouraging signs maybe this team can do something. |

Cleveland, OH - It was a almost blowout game that turned into a struggle to hold the lead at the end but the KC Chiefs won their 1st game for Coach Duper and the city of Kansas City.
QB Chad Pennington led the offensive attack throwing for 258 yards and 1 TD on 18 of 30 while RB Larry Johnson had a solid performance running for 116 yards and 2 TDs. WR Dwayne Bowe led the receiving corp with 102 yards and 1 TD while newly acquired Ashley Lelie started the game and ended up with 4 catches for 39 yards and a few 1st downs that were needed.
TE Michael Allan had a great game catching 5 passes for 68 yards while Larry Johnson had 3 catches for 13 yards. Rookie Terrell Thomas had 10 tackles while the rest of the defense played inspired and raw.
"I am happy with my performance tonight but we still have a long way to go for this team" _________________

Miami, FL - The Kansas City Chiefs have circled the wagons and the homesteaders are standing strong early in the SMFL season. Coach Duper's philosophy has brought the Chiefs to their 1st winning record in two seasons. Although they are only 2-1, the optimism is there for the Chiefs and their organization.
Talking about suprise players, newly acquired free agent WR Ashley Lelie got the start this week and didn't disappoint. WR Lelie caught 6 passes for 102 yards and 2 touchdowns. Aging TE Tony Gonzalez's presence was evident from the start of the game, hauling in 4 passes for 98 yards and also 2 TDs. Second-year WR Dwayne Bowe only had 2 catches but they were for TDs as QB Chad Pennington threw 6 touchdown passes in the win.
Rookie Andre Smith recoreded 12 pancakes as a noteworthy note to the game.
LB Napoleon Harris led the defense with 9 tackles, while cagey veteran LB Dhani Jones had 8 tackles and 1 interception. Rookie CB Morgan Trent had 5 tackles while Safeties Shawn Springs and Bernard Pollard, along with LBs Keith Rivers and Derrick Johnson all had 4 tackles a piece with the LBs getting a sack. Rookie CB Terrell Thomas also had 3 tackles and 1 interception as the defense stepped up in this game to provide a convincing win.
The Chiefs were able to hold the Dolphins to only a 28.6 3rd down completion percentage (4/14) while the Chiefs completed 50% (5/10). The Chiefs also had 401 yards of total offense to the Dolphins 321.
It was a win to get the Chiefs to 2-1 but as the Coach stated, this is a long race and the win isn't given to the swift but the strong that can endure. _________________

|

Kansas City, MO - The Chiefs ran into a buzz saw last night in their weekly game versus the Cincinatti Bengals but went away from that game feeling very proud that it was able to stay with and at times frustrate the heavily favored Bengals.
"We were not supposed to be in the game" stated Coach Duper. The Bengals seemed to be able to almost score at will and at times it seems that the Bengals would hit over 2,000 yards passing in the game but it was very surprising to see that the Bengals QB only had 188 yards passing when it seemed like he was hitting targets all game long.
The Chiefs who came into the game at 2-1 outgained the Bengals 513-333 in total offense and still came up on the short side of the win due to key turnovers and a 97-yard kickoff return for a TD by Wes Walker.
QB Chad Pennington threw for 341 yards and 2 TDs finding Dwayne Bowe and rookie WR Hakeem Nicks for the scores. RB Larry Johnson scored 2 TDs and ran for 139 yards in the loss.
The Chiefs defense was led by LB Derrick Johnson who rattled up 6 tackles. LB Keith Rivers had 5 tackles while MLB Napoleon Harris had 4 tackles.
The Chiefs held down the passing game of the Bengals (6-19 for 188 yards) but like I said before, it seemed that the Bengals were throwing all over the field.
Very good solid loss for the Chiefs and hard fought win for the Bengals. _________________
